Pre-Treatment Instructions
Clothing Requirements
- Only 100% cotton clothing is permitted.
- No synthetic fabrics (polyester, nylon, spandex, rayon, blends).
- No metal zippers, fleece, leggings, or athletic wear.
Items & Products to Avoid
- No makeup, lotions, oils, deodorants, perfumes.
- No hair products (spray, gel, mousse).
- No petroleum products (Vaseline, Aquaphor).
- Remove all jewelry.
- No electronic devices (phones, watches, earbuds).
Medical Considerations
Notify staff BEFORE treatment if you have:
- Congestion
- Sinus issues
- Ear pain
- Recent illness
- New medications
- Recent air/scuba travel
Diabetic Instructions
- Eat a snack 30-60 minutes before treatment.
- Check blood sugar pre- and post- treatment.
Hydration & Nutrition
- Drink water before your session.
- Avoid alcohol for 12 hours prior.
- Avoid carbonated beverages 2 hours prior.
- Eat a light meal or snack before your session.
What to Expect During Treatment
- The chamber will gradually pressurize.
- You may experience ear fullness—swallow, yawn, or chew to equalize.
- Tell your operator immediately If you feel discomfort, dizziness, nausea, anxiety, or chest pressure.
Arrival Instructions
- Arrive 10 minutes early.
- Use the restroom beforehand.
- Facility-provided cotton garments may be required.
Post-Treatment Instructions
Normal Expected Effects
- Mild fatigue, lightheadedness, or drowsiness.
- Temporary sinus pressure or ear fullness.
- Mild headache.
- Temporary blurry vision.
Ear & Sinus Care
- Mild popping or pressure is normal.
- Use saline spray if needed.
- Severe or persistent ear pain is NOT normal—contact the clinic immediately.
Hydration & Nutrition
- Drink plenty of water.
- Avoid alcohol for 12 hours post-treatment.
- Diabetic patients: recheck blood glucose after HBOT.
Activity Recommendations
- Normal activity can resume unless otherwise instructed.
- Avoid strenuous activity if you feel fatigued.
Symptoms Requiring Immediate Medical Attention
- Severe or persistent ear pain.
- Sudden or significant hearing changes.
- Chest pain or shortness of breath.
- Severe headache or vision changes lasting >24 hours.
- Nausea/vomiting that does not improve.
- Seizure activity, confusion, or unusual behavior.
Treatment Series Guidance
- Follow your provider’s recommended schedule.
- Notify staff of any medical changes before your next session.
